In a situation where manufacturing economic growth stagnated due to the economic downturn, we tried to create local jobs by focusing on the tourism industry, which is called the ‘chimneyless factory’, to solve the lack of employment. As a solution, we propose a solution to revitalize the city by securing a virtuous cycle mechanism that helps the influx of people through the revitalization of the tourism industry and create jobs by revitalizing the local economy.
As a result of examining the solutions for the economic boost that Busan city is implementing now, the focus was on the culture-tourism industry (Busan International Film Festival, Assyrian Tourism Complex Industry, etc.). In addition, since the nature-tourism industry is mostly concentrated in the sea area, similar markets are already overloaded. Therefore, we selected the location as Mt. Hwangryeong in order to appeal our competitiveness in the market by setting it apart from the current tourist destinations. Although Mt. Hwangryeong is a place with various historical and geographical advantages, it lacks recognition unlike other tourist destinations. Using this point, we plan to overcome the aging of Busan and make Mt. Hwangryeong a landmark in Busan while taking a new leap forward.
We used the geographical feature of Mt. Hwangryeong beacon tower to mean that the signal (smoke) of the beacon tower that used to protect the old Busan will bring up the currently stagnant Busan. The design concept is ‘scattering and delivery’ because the smoke of the beacon tower and the image of the waves of the Busan sea are conveyed and scattered in a visual form. Smoke and light signals are transmitted one after another to nearby beacon towers, inheriting the historical function of the beacon, which is transmitted to Hanyang (present day Seoul), and informs people in other areas of the presence of Mt. Hwangryeong beacon as a new tourist destination in Busan, and deviates from the stereotype that ‘Busan = Marine city’. It is in line with the purpose of attempting to change the image of the region by providing a fresh tourist destination, and aims to solve the aging problem of Busan.
