While modern urban development primarily concerns convenience and efficiency, we believe that human relationships, or connections between people, are equally important factors in development. One of the similarities between Japan and Korea is that many people consider urban centers to be business cities and tend to avoid communication outside of work. We also found that people who work in the city center tend to easily get stressed, and studies have shown that their life expectancy is more than a year shorter than those who live in the countryside. For this reason, we considered situations where communication would be important, and then proceeded with our research using “disaster” as a keyword. The survey revealed that disasters are less frequent in Korea than in Japan, and that people are less aware of disasters. As a result, many people panic when a disaster occurs, and the number of secondary disasters is also proportionally high. Given the above factors, we thought it was important to take appropriate actions to help people of disaster-prone locations in urban areas.
